AVAL is R&D project conducted by the Polish multidisciplinary Science & Business consortium. Results of the project will be implemented in a new innovative autonomous vessel technology.
The project is co-financed under Measure 4.1 of the Intelligent Development Operational Program 2014-2020 co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, Sub-measure 4.1.4 “Application research”
The project started on June 1, 2017 and its implementation period is 36 months.
Project acronym: AVAL – Autonomous Vessel with an Air Look
The budget of the project is 10 341 336.94 and the value of the co-financing awarded is 9 272 540.64.
The aim of the project is to conduct industrial and development research, the effects of which will be applied in the technology of an autonomous marine vessel. The main element of the technology is the system of innovative sea navigation using, in addition to navigation devices installed on the ship, data from visual observation conducted by unmanned aircraft.
The results of the project implementation will be applied in a product based on AVAL technology, and will be implemented on the maritime transport market in 2021.
AVAL technology consists of three components:
- Marine Unmanned Vessel (MUV) technology. The heart of MUV is anti-collision component and a system communication with Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV).
- UAV technology is a support for marine navigation system in a collision situation. UAV is equipped with a camera and sensors to register and transfer video and hydro-meteorological data to MUV.
- Image Processing technololgy (IPT). A key element of IPT is detection and recognition algorithm of danger objects at sea (such as leasure craft, mountains ice, whales, etc. ) in images recorded by UAV camera.
